‘Open Studios’ is an informal event for UMN students to display their art over the course of the semester. Students from each of the classes then have an opportunity to discuss & display their work over the course of the semester.
“Beyond Boundaries” discussion panel
This panel discussion delves into Beyond Boundaries, an art installation on display in the first floor of Wilson Library. Beyond Boundaries is co-created by students in Diane Willow’s course Art + Change: The Transformational Power of Art.
What distinguishes Beyond Boundaries is the time invested in researching and studying maps from the U of M’s John R. Borchert Map Library about the fact that the U of M campus lies on indigenous land. While working through the creative and artistic process, the artists also explored environmental versus man-made boundaries, and natural space versus human space. This panel session will give the audience a deeper understanding of the creative process and the resulting installation. - UMN libraries
Panelists: Sean Connaughty and Diane Willow from the U of M Department of Art, Ryan Mattke and Deborah Ultan from the University Libraries, and student artists Jacquelyn Fay, Bryce Mason, Ellen Schillace, Ty Schwantz, and Aimee Sutherland.
